Appearance

Burly, brawny, and rugged, Natsuo presents himself as a brawler whenever he can. He has spiky, messy brown hair with a high fade, long but tightly-cropped and meticulously-shaped sideburns, and a tight, narrow 'soul patch'-like beard. Natsuo has a warm, full-body tan, with extensive and well-trained muscles from his dense arms to his tightly-packed midsection, plus athletic, tightly-muscled legs and a square posture. He tends to wear overly casual, well-worn clothes or loose, comfortable "athleisure wear," though his favorite outfits are simple vests and pants. He frequently wears pads on his knees and elbows, as well as gloves for riding and fighting.

Personality

Energetic, excitable, personable, friendly, short-tempered.

Background

Natsuo's parents were both street fighters at their rival schools and after many years of competing against and with each other in various tournaments, they hooked up and eventually made it official. Natsuo was raised a fighter on both sides of his family, with his mother's quiet but intense strength and spiritual presence and his father's flashy, showy style and flair. While they both pushed him to do well enough in school to get a "real job" one day, he gravitated toward the same street brawls and tournaments and fight clubs that his parents had taken part in.

What set Natsuo apart was his preference for showmanship online; he likes to film videos and rather than spending his days as a simple fighter, he wants to become an action movie star. It was his recorded performances in the lower rungs of the underworld's fighting tournaments that drew the attention of Interpol. Rather than directly recruit him, the agency tracked his progression and growth for more than a year.

Natsuo suffered devastating injury in a very public loss in the final rounds of a tournament, with his opponent removing his left arm in a brutal show of dominance-- insult to injury intended to ward him away from breaking into the actual progression of Shadaloo's underground matches, and a testament to how much more powerful the organization was than ordinary fighters. While he recovered in the hospital, Interpol agents approached him and offered a way to get back into the ring: cybernetic enhancement, intended to counter the Feng Shui Engines and Psycho Drives and other mysterious technology Shadaloo had developed. Natsuo accepted the offer and subjected his body to extensive experimentation and cybernetic grafting, replacing his missing arm with a high-tech device derived from interactions with Shadaloo's secretive projects.

Natsuo performed well in the wake of the procedure and, after extensive drug therapy and rehabilitation, his body accepted the new additions of the Jian Jin Driver, allowing him to resume training under Interpol's guidance and tutelage, giving him the opportunity to adapt and fuse his existing style to it and learn how to develop it. Outside of the laboratory, his strength and ability grew by leaps and bounds, with the power of the Gold Sword helping him in everyday life and in Interpol's rigorous testing environment, as well.

Special Abilities

Bajiquan - Hakkyokuken in Japanese, a Chinese martial art style identifiable by its trademark elbow attacks, palm rushes and shoulder smashes.

  • Cyclone Dance - Spinning kick attack
  • Releasing Dance - Launches the opponent into the air.
  • Leaping Smash - Somersalting kick
  • Gang Buster - Teams up with another fighter to deliver a series of kung fu-based attacks on an opponent.
  • Justice Buster - A flying kick to an opponent followed by a backflip, usually used for dynamic entry.
  • Fractured Heaven - Natsuo stands on one leg and refocuses his Burning Vigor in preparation for more powerful dueling techniques.
    • Heaven's Barrage - A launching backflip followed by a barrage of midair kicks and a punch that knocks the opponent to the ground.
    • Energy Focus Cluster - Unleashes a large sphere-ended ray of destructive chi energy from his hands.

Dirty Fighting

Knife Fighting

  • Grand Backstab - Throws numerous knives at once toward opponents, controlling and powering them up with Burning Vigor, allowing him to move them remotely with a thought and explode in spiritual energy.
  • Bloodbath - Dashes forward and executes quick knife throws and ends with a knockdown kick, all powered with Burning Vigor.

Powers & Merits

Burning Vigor - Natsuo has the ability to manifest his chi/spiritual energy as violet-tinted flames and skull-shapes. He can channel it to power up his fighting style. This can manifest in a myriad of different ways, whether on his body or in projectiles. This requires intense concentration and for his adrenaline to be up, so it is not necessarily an "at will" ability, but one born out of intense drive and typically combat. The energy doesn't actually burn (unless it's directed to), so it doesn't destroy his clothes or the environment or even seem hot to the touch.

  • Enhanced Strength - Natsuo's artificial left arm grants him extra physical strength with that arm, allowing him to lift and interact with objects exceeding typical human capabilities.
  • Enhanced Durability - The casing on Natsuo's artificial left arm is made of advanced synthetic alloys, allowing it to resist excessive kinetic force applied against it. This does not extend to the rest of his body.
  • Concentration (1): You are very good at focusing, and suffer no penalty for distractions, stress or having to repeat yourself often.
  • Gall (2): You got moxy, kid. You get a +1 bonus to any Social roll requiring backbone.
  • Crack Driver (1): You get a +2 Bonus to Driving rolls.
  • Loyalty - Interpol (1): Natsuo owes Interpol everything for giving him a second chance at greatness. He is devoted to it and will easily resist attempts to persuade him from it. Any attempts to make him betray it is done with an opposed roll with a +2 bonus. He must remain loyal or risk losing this benefit.

Unique Items

Jiàn Jin Driver - A complex cybernetic enhancement suite focused on Natsuo's artificial left arm. The human-like appearance belies the potent technology within, connecting Natsuo's brain directly to the innards of the machine.

  • Gold Sword - The eponymous function of the device is to create and project a microfabricated blade from the forearm that extends to a short sword's length in front of and above his fist. The weapon is relatively brittle and only used in brief bursts, but is more than capable of inflicting serious damage or serving as a deflector for other weapons. When destroyed, the microfabricators immediately get to work churning up another one. These blades can also be fired at high speed over a long distance.
  • Remote Operating Suite - A powerful set of computing hardware and software occupies most of the upper arm, allowing Natsuo to interact with digital and electronic systems within a relatively short distance (a building, for instance).
    • Hacking - Allows for system breaching and takeovers.
    • Environmental Control - Once Natsuo has interfaced with a civic system, the Gold Sword allows Natsuo limited control over local systems like traffic control, surveillance, and infrastructure systems.
    • Identity Masking - Once Natsuo has interfaced with a surveillance system, the Gold Sword uses facial recognition subroutines to disguise the identities of anyone he chooses with blurred images.
  • Scanning - The Gold Sword has the ability to uplink with various government and NGO databases to scan environments and identify things or people within it, providing records and documents from corresponding agencies.
  • Modular - The Jian Jin Driver can be altered and upgraded by someone with sufficient skill.
  • Weak to Electricity/EMP - While physically durable, the Jian Jin Driver is susceptible to electric overload, electronic jamming, and electromagnetic energy. Its high-precision systems are sensitive and easily disrupted, with functionality limited or removed by various means.

Items Of Note

Motorcycle and related gear, all themed in black, white, and purple/violet skulls.

Weaknesses & Flaws

  • Overconfident (1): You think you can do everything even though you probably can't, and you try to prove your belief as often as possible.
  • Curiosity (2): Your incredible curiosity often overrides your common sense. Resisting temptation requires a successful Wits roll, difficulty depending on the situation.
  • Driving Goal (3) (Stardom): You have some goal which is at the basis of all your motivations, though it is of such depth or impossibility, it could probably never be achieved. Your obsession with your vision can temporarily be soothed by a proper situation (Mission, Combat, etc) or a roll (Diff 8).
  • Probationary Member (Interpol) (3): Natsuo isn't on the greatest terms with Interpol; as a test subject and an easily-cut off one, at that, it's highly suspect of various naughtiness. He isn't a fully-fledged sworn officer and isn't privy to the normal privileges of being part of it, nor will he necessarily receive aid when he ought to.
