Personality

Lucy has a different perspective on most things than what people are used to. She takes the long view, and listens to that which most people don't even hear. It's not certain how much of what she hears is genuine, or how much of it is genuinely due to the damage the elder things have done to her comparatively fragile mostly human mind. Although she's eccentric and flighty, one thing most who've come to know her can agree on is this: She's a genuinely kind and caring person. She doesn't like to see good people suffer, and if that same compassion sometimes happens to extend to nameless horrors from forgotten places, well...is that such a bad thing? She's at least aware enough to know that Nyarlathotep is an asshole.

Background

A member of the distinguished Armitage family, Lucy lived on the borders of reality from an early age. When her baby teeth fell out and her permanent teeth came in sharp, it became clear that at some point the Armitage blood had become mixed with something that was not entirely human. Her mother was the head librarian at Miskatonic University, while her father was an archaeologist who frequently traveled all over the world. It was almost inevitable that Lucy would be drawn out of the illusions of the mundane world and into the horrible realities of the real world, and it was perhaps due to this happening at such a young age that her mind didn't wholly break. It just...fractured a little.

She developed a keen interest in witchcraft, of a sort that used advanced mathematics and forgotten tongues as its medium. She became an advanced student of math, language, religion and history at the age of 11. She had her psychotic break at 12. When her grandfather gave his thoughts on his granddaughter's mental state, he said: "Mental breakdown? No...that girl has the clearest eyes I've ever seen. You can see the stars in them if you look hard enough, and that's the problem. She sees farther than most people twice her age, and perceives those things most peoples' minds are kind enough to shelter them from. Psychotic break? Ridiculous. She's the sanest person I've ever met."

When Lucy murdered one of Arkham Asylum's psychotherapists at the age of 14, she insisted that it was because he was a servant of a being known as Nyarlathotep. On the way to her trial her escort was attacked by an unknown party and Lucy escaped, fleeing from Arkham. She has since spent her life in the wild country surrounding the Miskatonic river, honing her knowledge of spellcraft and battling the evil forces that dwell on the borders of reality.

Special Abilities

Hastur's Grasp: An ethereal hand manifests in the air, allowing Lucy to grab things far away. In combat she often uses this to try to choke her enemies.

Reach of the Old Ones: When slashing with her claws, Lucy can project the slashes up to thirty feet away.

Echoes of the Outer Gods: Lucy can make her voice appear to be coming from somewhere else, as long as she can see where she's throwing it to.

Wasting Touch: Lucy can grab onto an enemy. As long as she's hanging onto them, their energy drains into her.

Screams of the Thousand Young: Lucy screams with a thousand voices, causing anyone near her to want to get away from her as fast as possible.

Brood of Atlach-Nacha: A swarm of spiders with humanlike faces pour from Lucy's mouth, swarming her enemies and biting them.

Mouth of the Feeder: A hideous fleshy trunk emerges from Lucy's palm, the end of which has a leechlike mouth that can latch onto enemies and drain the blood from them.

Living Flames of Cthugha: Lucy can throw fireballs that home in on their targets.

Freezing Breath of Ithaqua: Much like a frost dragon, Lucy can breath an icy mist that freezes what it touches.

Heritage of Tindalos: Dear God, what foul inhuman monstrosity did one of Lucy's ancestors pair with?!

  • Quadrupedal Motion: Lucy often feels most comfortable running around on all fours, and can do so with ease.
  • Tooth and Claw: Her sharp teeth are capable of rending flesh, and her fingers can extend to become deadly claws. Four tentacles can also sprout from her back.
  • Corrupted Blood: Lucy's blood is toxic.
  • What's That Smell? It's....: Lucy can smell blood, as well as magic, and track both like a bloodhound.
  • Mist Form: Lucy can transform into mist, giving her the ability to seep through cracks or small crevices. The transition is slow, however, and so is of little use in combat.

Poison Resistance (2): You have an innate ability to resist the effects of many toxins. Whenever you need to roll to resist poisons, you get a +2 Bonus

Lightning Calculator (1): You have a natural affinity for numbers. +1 bonus when relevant.

Acute Senses (1): Lucy's sense of smell is incredibly sharp, and Alertness rolls involving this sense have a +1 Bonus.

Ability Aptitude (1): Occult. +1 Bonus to all rolls using this ability.

Natural Linguist (2): You're good with languages and language structures. +2 Bonus on all language and translation rolls, but you can't know anymore languages than the ones you have listed on your sheet. Lucy knows English, Japanese, Arabic.

Medium (2): You have the ability to see and interact with ghosts. Sometimes, the Restless may seek you out for favors. Depending on the ghosts you meet, this could be a very good or very bad thing.

Weaknesses & Flaws

Flaws can go here. Balance is key!

Demonic Warding: Anything that works against demons works against Lucy. Binding circles, hallowed ground, holy water, and especially divine spells and weapons. Lucy also carries another vulnerability around her neck: The Elder Sign pendant she carries can be turned against her.

Unfriendly Magicks: Magic that heals tends to be either divine or natural, forces which tend to be opposed to that which runs in Lucy's blood. Most healing spells or techniques don't work on Lucy, meaning she needs to heal on her own. She can heal most any injury, but it's not accelerated. She'll need to recuperate normally unless she has access to magic capable of healing her that does not fall into either of those categories.

Disturbing Mannerism (2): Lucy sometimes responds to things that aren't really there. Or are they? Penalties of social rolls are increased at the GM's discretion.

Masochist(1): Lucy enjoys pain. In addition to the inconveniences this fascination may cause her, she may also be seen as sick (and, well she is), or even more sick people may use her for your obsession.

Phobia (3): You have a specific, incredibly powerful fear. At 1 pt, you will avoid any contact or nearness with the object of your fear, and all rolls near it will be at -1 penalty.. as well as other shortcomings, like nervousness, fear, and the general wanting to get the hell out of there, which you will at the first opportunity. At 3 pts, the object of your fear will cripple you, and you might pass out if you fail a roll (Diff 7). If you succeed, you can do -nothing else- until you get as far away from it as possible, likely screaming and flailing. For Lucy, this fear is Thalassaphobia.

Dark Fate (5): You are doomed to suffer a horrible demise, or otherwise have some sort of icky unpleasant fate. You are aware of this, and can kinda make you rather depressed...

Offensive to Animals (1): For some reason, animals fear you or just don't like you. All rolls involving interacting with animals are at a -1 Penalty. Some creatures (Vampires, Werewolves, Robots) have this naturally, so taking it again makes the animals actively antagonistic towards you, and may bite you or pee on you.

Otherworldly Taint (2): You have a physical peculiarity (odd hair/eye color, glowing eyes, etc.) and/or just an odd aura about you which may make you stick out. Someone who suspects you're not "normal" may make an Alertness roll, difficulty 7, to determine what you are.
