SPECIAL ABILITIES, POWERS

Physical Advantages

Orc: Zilug is, rather obviously, an Orc. Orcs are made for battle. He has a longer lifespan and better resistance to the elements. His skin is coarse and rough enough to be like a hide, and his healing abilities, while not 'superhuman', are considerably superior to a human's. His chances of infection from wounds, or death from shock are incredibly low, and he is able to take arrows to any non vital area and keep fighting, very likely still using the affected limb, without much hindrance. His resistance to the elements is also impressive, allowing him to parade shirtless even in the frozen north. All Orcs are naturally stronger and more enduring than humans, able to exert themselves for much longer and not needing to keep themselves in 'good shape' to maintain their stamina and strength as humans would. Furthermore, Orc senses are somewhat more attuned to nature than most humans, though this is not so much an advantage as Orcs rely more on their innate senses where humans are more likely to use deductive reasoning or other techniques.
Exceptional Physical Strength: Even among Orcs, who are considerably stronger and more physical than standard humans, Zilug is exceptionally strong. He is in excellent shape, by Orc and Human standards, and trains daily. He is able to life a full grown man with relative ease, armor and all, and is incredibly likely to knock down doors easily. He could be considered 'Superhuman', though in the lower end of that spectrum.
Exceptional Physical Endurance: Zilug is basically tireless. Through wounds, through exertion, and through battle, he can just keep going and going. Even if he falls over from exhaustion, he isn't likely to die from it. He is able to take blows that would slay a regular Orc and keep going, as well as remain standing from strikes that would fell most humans and even most Orcs. Adding to this, Zilug is highly disciplined and can make himself ignore pain for a short time.
Enhanced Reflexes: Through the use of Shamanistic potions and through his adventuring, Zilug is extremely agile. He moves like a cat and is able to leap, climb, and move on any terrain with ease. He is occasionally able to snatch arrows out of the air or reliably dodge most projectiles thrown at him. Adding this to his fighting skills makes him a force to be reckoned with.

Fighting Techniques

Swordsman: Zilug is an expert swordsman, equally skilled in one or two-handed styles. He is incredibly skilled and agile despite his size, using a more familiar broadsword compared to the more crude and heavy, cleaving weapons favored by other Orcs, and he is able to use them with one or two hands, or even two at a time. His favorite way of swordfighting, however, is to have a broadsword or a bastard sword in one hand and a more traditional longsword as a parrying or secondary weapon in his off-hand. He even has a few swordsmanship techniques he enjoys using. He is equally adept in the use of scimitars and greatswords.
Great Cleave: Putting all of his force into a blow, Zilug is able to strike with both hands on his heavier sword and cut through enemies in an arc, often slaying even mounts and armored opponents. When using two swords, he uses his shorter sword to 'brace' the heavier one to add more power to the strike. This allows him to bypass shields and armors on most kinds of strikes.
Wind Runner: Zilug uses his exceptional speed to deliver a series of slashes, so fast the wind pressure from the swords allows him to strike at multiple opponents at once (treat as a Kamaitachi technique).
Cross Strike: Zilug can concentrate his inner power into his swords, and slash with both, either in a cross or an X pattern. This energy causes a massive amount of damage on a single (or two very very close) target, and is able to go through magical protections.

Weapons Expert: Zilug is highly skilled in the use of other weapons, primarily axes, halberds, the javelin, and bows, as well as throwing daggers. While he much prefers heavier weapons and one on one combat, he is able to handle himself decently at long range, and is able to improvise with most types of weapons. He is considerably more skilled with Orc-made weapons than human or elven blades, though dwarven weapons come naturally to him. He has a few abilities linked to his lesser weapon skills.
Great Cleave: If using a two-handed axe, Zilug can recreate his sword technique with it.
Needles: Zilug calls his throwing daggers 'needles', and that's what he uses them for. He is able to toss up to ten of them at once, and with his strength, they can often bypass armor and similar defenses. This is his primary way to hunt.

Brawling: While Zilug wouldn't consider himself a 'Martial Artist' if he were introduced to those styles, he has a long history of bar brawls and brutal fistfights. His instincts have been sharpened and honed, his reflexes practiced and his agility almost unmatched by most Orcs, allowing him to fistfight with the best of them, and even use his feet far more often than another Orc would. While crude and focused on brutal hits, it would be fair to compare him to a street fighter or mixed martial artist.

NOTABLE ITEMS

Heatstroke: Zilug's bastard sword. A blade of Dwarven make which he recovered from Frostbiter's cave during his second confrontation with the Dragon, Heatstroke is a powerful sword which can catch on fire with a thought. In the frozen north where he originates, Zilug's weapon is a blessing. The sword is heavily magical and can strike blows against even magically protected defenses, often able to melt through them. Undead and creatures whose power lie in ice or frost are generally exceptionally vulnerable to the power of Heatstroke. The sword has a few other abilities.

  • Flamestrike: Zilug can send out a streak of flames from his blade by swinging it, slashing and setting the enemies on fire at the same time, in an arc.
  • Fireball: Zilug can launch a ball of fire from the tip of his sword, causing a massive explosion wherever it hits.
  • Firewall: Zilug can stab his sword into the ground, making a barrier of fire in front him him, acting as a super heated shield. No flaming attack can get past this wall, and it burns to the touch.

Runecarver: A longsword Zilug usually uses paired with Heatstroke. It is a runeblade, and is able to 'match' Heatstroke when used in tandem (getting the same advantages against frost creatures and undead), but has its own distinct abilities. While it possesses no 'offensive' abilities, Runecarver is able to block spells directed at Zilug, glows faintly when magic is in use around him, allowing him to avoid traps or spells, and can be used as a barrier for an anti-magic field, if held defensively. However, to do this, Zilug must sheathe Heatstroke, otherwise Runecarver simply matches its own powers.

Spirit Beads: A gift from his Clan's head Shaman, as a reward for his bravery. When meditating, spirits can come and soothe Zilug's body and mind, allowing him to heal wounds at rest. This cannot be used in battle, but if he can clear his mind safely, the spirits will rise from the beads to mend his wounds (though scars can and will remain).

WEAKNESSES

Aggression: As with all Orcs, Zilug is a very war-like, aggressive being. He is more likely to act impulsively and respond to offenses with violence than a conversation, unless he likes the person. In which case the violence is likely to be 'friendly'.
Orcish Upbringing: Zilug has a very Orc-centric morality and cultural background. He knows of other races and their cultures, but thinks rather poorly of them. He will act as a proud Orc at all times, unless it is socially unacceptable for him to do so with very obvious consequences.. but even then.
